MY POST SECONDARY JOURNEY

Updated: Feb 23, 2023

The Public University of The South Aux Cayes

Allow me to introduce myself; my name is Wilkin Lafrance and I am a second year student of administrative sciences at the Public University of the South Aux Cayes (UPSAC). My first year of study has been a wonderfully insightful experience.

During my classical studies, I thought that the university was only an avenue for higher education that would allow me to obtain a diploma, and hopefully afford entry into a competitive job market. However, after completing my first year of study, I realized that the purpose of this level of study goes far beyond what I imagined.

Indeed, becoming a student at UPSAC has been a tremendous blessing. For me, it is all about becoming a full citizen, soon ready to participate in scientific research, all in an effort to further elevate the people of my beloved homeland. As a collective unit, we must learn to discuss, analyze, and debate, as we attempt to solve Haiti’s internal troubles. From the experiences this year, I have come to understand that becoming part of a university requires more sacrifices than expected. As a student, one must put forth diligent and steadfast effort in order to produce undeniable results. I clearly understand the need to work hard, to pass all courses, and to ultimately develop a future business plan. Hopefully, upon graduation, I will reach my goal of obtaining a license in the field of administration. However, despite the difficulties I initially encountered, my first year of study proved to be a true success, as I achieved high grades on all final exams. The university represents an entirely new world full of exciting things to discover. I am totally motivated and inspired to continue working exceptionally hard in order to remain here.

I had always viewed my entrance into any university as a huge challenge given my limited financial standing. The PKF Scholarship greatly eased my financial burden and now places my career goals within reach. I have come to realize that it is the responsibility of all of us to help those in need. I will strive to become accountable. I will reach back; I will be proactive. It is our responsibility to help PKF to further develop effective programs, as it continues in its noble mission to uplift the deserving youth of Haiti.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Patrick's Kids Foundation for its invaluable support. I am truly humbled and honored to be one of the scholarship recipients of the Patrick’s Kids Foundation College Preparatory Program (PKFCPP). Indeed, this organization offers support to its ‘Scholars’ that goes above and beyond. Once awarded this scholarship, all scholars receive direct access to a network of professional advisors determined to ensure that all scholars achieve their goals.

Kudos to the Patrick’s Kids Foundation and may the good Lord continue to bless the PKF Family! We love you.
